*** Incident No.18 ***

Monday 2 May, 09.00hrs onwards

Following the incident at Kielder last Sunday, the next day the Team was providing rescue cover for the Shepherds Walks Coastal Challenge. A long day was interspersed with treating three walkers for a variety of ailments and injuries. Two of the walkers had to be evacuated in one of the Team’s Land Rover ambulances as they were unable to continue with the event.

Well done to everyone who completed the Coastal Challenge and in doing so helped raise funds for the Team.

A total of 8 members were involved for 10hrs.

Team Training

Last night was a training night for Team members.

Half of the group were involved in a session delivered by MIND on dealing with mental health issues. A very informative session which should us to better support Team members who might following a traumatic incident suffer from mental health issues.

The other half of the group looked at the newly updated stretcher bed fitting in the back of one of our Land Rover 4×4 ambulances and practised setting up the satellite Broadband system so that we have access to the Internet wherever we are.

*** Incident No.26 ***

At just before 4.00pm today, the North East Ambulance Service requested the Team’s assistance in locating and evacuating a walker with an injured ankle. The location provided by the walker’s partner was approximate; they were believed to be near to Chesters, a remote uninhabited farmhouse to the south of the Breamish Valley. The Team along with North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team responded immediately. A Mountain Rescue Landrover 4×4 Ambulance with two members onboard located the walker 400m to the east of Chesters. Casualty care was administered and the walker’s injured ankle immobilised before he was transported off the hill by the community Paramedic, who also happens to be a Team member, to an awaiting Ambulance. The busy period continues…

1156 (Whitley Bay) Squadron Air Training Corps

Just another thing we get up to in our spare time… a great evening had by all.

 

The light summer evenings has facilitated a visit to 1156Sqn this week from the Northumberland MRT. The cadets were shown round their vehicle and received instruction in some of their emergency equipment, culminating in a rescue scenario where one of the cadets played the part of a casualty and was evacuated to the ambulance by members of the MRT assisted by the other cadets. Many thanks to the volunteers from the team for their excellent evening and for all the work they do helping to keep the outdoors safer.
