The 35th Cheviots Challenge

The 35th Cheviots Challenge is fast approaching and will take place next weekend – Saturday 3 September. This fantastic event will get you high in the hills of the Northumberland National Park with the Team close by in strategic locations along the route to keep you safe.

This single event raises around 15% of the annual operating cost of the Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team so you’ll get that warm and fuzzy feeling inside too!

There is a choice of route:

Terry Lynn long route is about 23 miles and over 3500 feet of climbing and will include Clennell Street, Windy Gyle, Swinside Law, Battleshiel Haugh.

Eileen Lynn short route is about 18 miles and over 2500 feet of climbing and will include Clennell Street, Barrow Law, Battleshiel Haugh.

Both routes will take you through and over the beautiful Upper Coquetdale and Cheviot Hills. On the day of the event you will receive a route card and a photocopy map giving details of the route.

Working Together

Over the last 6 weeks, we’ve responded alongside and worked closely with the Great North Air Ambulance Service on 4 incidents within the Northumberland National Park.

Monday 2 May, 09.00hrs onwards

Following the incident at Kielder last Sunday, the next day the Team was providing rescue cover for the Shepherds Walks Coastal Challenge. A long day was interspersed with treating three walkers for a variety of ailments and injuries. Two of the walkers had to be evacuated in one of the Team’s Land Rover ambulances as they were unable to continue with the event.

Well done to everyone who completed the Coastal Challenge and in doing so helped raise funds for the Team.

A total of 8 members were involved for 10hrs.

Dark Skies Runners Help Support Mountain Rescue Team

Thanks North East Connected for publishing an article on us and the Dark Skies Marathon at Kielder Water & Forest Park.

Thanks to the Trail Outlaws for organizing the event and the 300 runners for running it; you have donated £1,400 towards the work of the Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team between you – it will be put to good use.

Fundraising for Hi-Vis Rucksack Covers

With only a few months to go in our 50th year we are well on our way to reaching our £50k fundraising target. To date you have helped raised just over £41k. These funds are being put to use… they are helping us to convert a trailer into a mobile control unit and store for our water kit, and to replace the laptops used by our controllers.

We are now seeking to raise funds to equip each of our 40 Team members with a high visibility rucksack cover. These are essential when working in more urban environments and at night to ensure our members are easily seen.

On the day of the event, you will receive a route card and a photocopy map giving details of the route. Checkpoints along the route must be visited before the closing time shown on the route card. Checkpoints can provide first aid and one or more will provide refreshments. Participants completing the event between 0800 and 2000 hours will be awarded, upon presentation of a completed route card, a certificate and souvenir mug.

Once again a souvenir T-Shirt of the event is available to order, payment extra to entry.
