*** Incident No.38 ***

Monday 8th August 2016, 15.15 hrs
The Team along with North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team were called by Northumbria Police to assist a walker with a lower leg injury on the Pennine Way above the College Valley. Fortunately for the casualty the MCA Rescue Helicopter from Prestwick was in the process of finishing a mission for the Tweed Valley Rescue Team and was able to collect the casualty from the hill. Two Team members located the rest of the party as they descended off the hill and with assistance from the Police escorted them back to their transport at Hethpool.

The incident involved 12 Team members for 3 hours.

*** Incident No.17 ***

Sunday 1 May, 20.31hrs

Yesterday evening North of Tyne MRT and ourselves were contacted by Northumbria Police regarding a cyclist who was lost in the Kielder area. Indications were that the cyclist was near to Riccarton.

We tried SARLOC, a text message system used to locate missing persons, whilst the Police drove some of the roads and other resources were being mobilised. Border Search & Rescue Unit and Tweed Valley MRT were made aware of the incident in case additional support was required.

Unfortunately due to the poor mobile coverage SARLOC didn’t work. After half an hour though contact was made with the cyclist again and he confirmed he was on the road near Riccarton. A Police vehicle located the cyclist and transported him back to his start point at Kielder Water. All ended well.

The incident involved 2 Team members for 1 hour.

Incident No.14

The Team has just stood down from a search for a missing cyclist. The cyclist split from the rest of his group at Kershope Bridge in Scotland, late afternoon yesterday, and failed to turn up at their overnight accommodation near to Falstone. As Team members were travelling to the RV, one of our Team vehicle was deployed to search towards Kielder from the overnight accommodation. The cyclist was located near to Tower Knowe Information Centre; he was tired, mildly hypothermic but otherwise fine.

A good result involving ourselves, North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and Tweed Valley MRT. Mountain Rescue working together cross the Border!
