Incident: 94 2018

Date: 23 and 24 June 2018
Time: 13.18hrs
Location: Greenhead

North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves were called out by Northumbria Police on Saturday to assist in the search for 74 year old Walter Hutton in the Greenhead area.

Sadly just after midday on Sunday a body was located. Our thoughts go out to Walter’s family and friends, and the local community at this difficult time.

The Teams were assisted by a Swiftwater Rescue Team from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, two Search And Rescue Dog Association England teams from Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team and Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team. Additional members from TWSMRT were also available should we have needed them.

The incident involved 20 members on day one for 8 hours and 16 members on day two for 4 hours.

New Water Rescue Equipment

A big thank you to all of our supporters who helped raise £3,500 for new equipment for our Level 2 Water First Responders, Level 3 Swiftwater Rescue Technicians and Level 5 Water & Flood Incident Managers.

We would also like to thank Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team who very generously donated Personal Flotation Devices and other equipment which was surplus to their requirements. Their donation has enabled us to distribute kit to individual Team members as well as to retain a number of sets on our vehicles.

A fun afternoon was spent sorting out all the kit!

Further funds are required for additional dry suits and training for more Team members. It costs nearly £1,000 to train and equip one Team member ready for the next flood event in our operational area.
