Incident No: 136 2018

Location: Cocklawburn Beach, near Berwick

After a full day’s exercise at one end of our operational area, we deployed to the other end on Sunday evening. Northumbria Police requested Mountain Rescue’s support for an ongoing search for a missing 63 year old female.

Working alongside HM Coastguard NorthumberlandBerwick Coastguard rescue team and Eyemouth CoastguardNorth of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves conducted an extensive overnight search of areas adjacent to Cocklawburn Beach to the south of Berwick. Unfortunately nothing was found and the Teams stood down in the early hours of Monday morning.

The search for Mary Fuller continued on Monday with Northumbria Police, Coastguard, RNLI and the National Police Air Service assets being deployed. Mountain Rescue will be assisting again today.

If anyone knows of Mary Fuller’s whereabouts, please contact the police on 101. Mary is described as white, of slight build with grey short hair and was last seen wearing a green fleece waistcoat, green trousers and boots.

We hope Mary is found safe and well.

The incident involved 19 Team members for 5 hours 45 minutes.

Incident No: 37 2017

Location: Bamburgh Castle

Northumbria Police requested our support, alongside North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team, to assist in organising and coordinating a search for a missing 7 year old child around the beach area of Bamburgh Castle. The Coastguard and RNLI had also been requested along with the NPAS helicopter.

The Teams were placed on standby while more information was gained and a search strategy developed.

Shortly after being placed on standby, the NPAS helicopter located the child on the beach who was then picked up by a Police officer.

***Incident 002 2017***

Location: Berwick

Northumbria Police requested North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves this afternoon to provide technical rope rescue skills in order to recovery a body from the foot of the cliffs near Berwick. As the Team’s Incident Officer was responding to the activation by the Police, we were informed that the Coastguard and RNLI were able to deal with the situation.

Our thoughts are with the deceased person’s families and friends at this difficult time.

The incident involved two members for five minutes.
