As the glider incident was drawing to a close, Northumbria Police requested our and North of Tyne MRT’s assistance with a high risk missing person. The male had left home in Whickham at 13.00hrs on Sunday and was last seen in the Derwent walk area.
The initial request was for use of PhoneFind, no response to the text was received. Overnight developments led by the Police Search Adviser resulted in further discussions between our Mountain Rescue Duty Controller, on Monday morning. As plans were being put together for deployment, Police sadly located a body.
The incident involved 2 Team members for 14 hours.
