In support of Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team
Welcome to our March 2013 newsletter
As we run the Safari’s on approximately a 6 week basis that means that we don’t have an event in March, however, it’s not long until our April event which will take place on Sunday April the 7th. As we go to press the next event is proving to be very popular and there are only a few places left, so if you would like to join us in April book as soon as possible.
For the April 4×4 Safari we will be making a welcome return to the newly refurbished Duke’s Pantry at Kielder Castle for our event signing on and of course your free breakfast for the driver, which is in included in the price. Additional breakfasts are available to purchase for any passengers as well as a range of snacks and drinks.
The February event took place a couple of weeks ago and after a very misty start it turned out to be a nice but cold day. Most of the snow had melted from the lower parts of the forest which left some of the tracks very muddy and slippery. This in turn caused a couple of vehicles to get stuck but as ever our supporters were able to free the vehicles without too much fuss.
Once again we were lucky to gain access to the disused quarry just East of Wainhope. The quarry is quite small but it has a couple of tricky hills that people can either pit their vehicle against or just park up and watch others trying, unfortunately the quarry is in a part of the forest where the Kielder Ospreys nest. When the Osprey’s take up residence in the forest we avoid that part of the forest to give them the very best chance of successfully breeding, this normally starts in middle to late April with the courtship and the eggs are normally laid at the end of April/start of May. When they are nesting the Dukes Pantry usually have a live feed from the nest so you can watch them without disturbing them.

If this sounds like something you would like to experience then why not head over to our bookings page and sign up for the next Safari on the 7th April 2013 whilst there are still places available.
A family oriented event where you will spend time with our guides driving through Kielder and Wark Forests. In the comfort of your own vehicle, you will get to drive a variety of tracks and trails through the heart of the forest, not normally accessible to the public.
The event is suitable for all makes of 4×4 and is intended to be as none damaging as possible, so suitable for new and older cars alike.
Bring the family, pack your picnic and come and join us.
For those with dogs, they are welcome too!
