Incident No: 67 2018

Date: 21 March 2018
Time: 15.08 hrs
Location: Humford Mill, near Bedlington

Yesterday marked another milestone for the Team. It is not even the end of March and we’ve had a record breaking year for the number of incidents – 67 so far!

Northumbria Police requested our assistance in evacuating a casualty from a difficult to access location in Humford Woods. The North East Ambulance Service were already on scene treating the casualty.

Along with North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team we duly responded. The casualty was swiftly evacuated to a crewed Ambulance before being taken to hospital.

It was the first incident for the on loan #MREWDiscovery in #Northumberland, the timing of which couldn’t have been better as one of our Landrover Defenders is currently off the road and in need of some TLC.

The incident involved 10 Team members for 1 hour 15 minutes.

Incident No: 65 2018

Date: 11 March 2017
Time: 12.41 hrs
Location: Shillmoor, Upper Coquetdale

On Sunday we were involved a major, multi-agency search for the driver of a vehicle after it was reported in the river near Shillmoor. North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves worked alongside Northumbria Police and their Marine Unit, Northumberland Fire & Rescue Service’s Swiftwater teams, and the North East Ambulance Service‘s HART team. NPAS Newcastle was also deployed to overfly the area.

We deployed our specially trained and equipped Swiftwater & Flood First Responders and air-scenting search dogs to search the river banks downstream of where the vehicle was located.

Tragically, late afternoon on Sunday, a body was located downstream of Shillmoor.

Our Team Leader, Iain Nixon, said “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends as well as with the wider community in Upper Coquetdale at this very difficult time.”

The incident involved 22 Team members for 7 hours.

An end to a busy week for the #MountainRescue teams in #Northumberland.

North of Tyne MRT and ourselves were called out yesterday afternoon to assist the North East Ambulance Service and other agencies involved in an incident near Hartburn. The technical rope rescue skills of the MRTs were requested to help access a young child who had fallen 40 feet down a steep/vertical bank to the riverside.

Incident No: 11 2018

Date: 12 February 2018
Time: 23.13 hrs
Location: Seaton Burn

Late last night Northumbria Police requested the support of North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves in searching for a high risk missing female. The female in her late 50s had been reported missing from home, earlier in the evening.

A search plan was developed by our Incident Officer in conjunction with the Police Search Adviser. Search groups and two Search And Rescue Dog Association England dog teams were then deployed to search high priority routes and areas to the west of Seaton Burn and towards the Big Waters Country Park. The search proved negative and the Teams were stood down in the early hours of this morning.

As most members were heading into work after only a couple of hours sleep, the Police notified us that the missing person had been found safe and well in a property by a family member. We hope the female now receives the support she needs.

Incident No: 08 2018

Date: 26 January 2018
Time: 02.06hrs
Location: Bellingham

Another day, another incident making three incidents in three days for North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves.

Northumbria Police contacted the Teams in the early hours of yesterday. A male in his mid-80s had been reported missing from his home in Heaton by a relative. Initial information suggested that the male may have headed to Northumberland for a walk. With limited information our incident controller group, working with the Police Search Adviser, explored possible scenarios.

Over the next few hours the Police continued their enquiries; eventually it became apparent that the elderly male was safe and well, having spent the night in bed at Bellingham Youth Hostel.

Please can we remind walkers or other outdoor users to leave details of their intended plans/routes with a relative or friend to help the Emergency Services including the volunteer #MountainRescue Teams to coordinate a response in the event of them being reported overdue.
